California Personal Injury Attorneys

Dedicated To Fighting For You

Stephen McElroy

Steve often says that he knew one thing for certain growing up; he wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. These are qualities that he first learned from his father who was a teacher. Those qualities have driven him forward in his personal and professional life. Throughout law school Steve worked as the Director of a non-profit foundation that cared for children who were severely disabled. That amazing group of children, Steve says, taught him about passion for life.

Steve first knew that he wanted to be a trial lawyer when, as an intern for the Public Defender’s office, he was asked to help the offices top trial lawyer pick a jury. He was hooked. Steve has always been a trial lawyer. He has tried more than 80 jury trials to verdict. He is a graduate of the Gerry Spence Attorney s College. Steve is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He has been named each of the past 7 years to the list of Southern California Super Lawyers. He was named one of five finalists for Attorney of the Year in 2015 by the Capitiol Cities Attorney s Association in Sacramento. He was more recently honored as a finalist for Attorney of the Year in 2016 by the Ventura County Attorney s Association.

Steve joined CZR as a partner in May 2015. Steve has been a good friend of Nick Rowley for many years and left his position as Managing Attorney for another trial firm to, in Steve’s words, “work with the best trial lawyers in the country”. Steve’s practice focus at CZ&R is trying cases involving loss of life and major injuries. He has a particular passion for cases that involve clients who have developed chronic pain conditions after injuries. According to Steve, he understands how injured people and the ones they love are devastated by the effects of chronic pain.

As recently as April of 2016 Steve got a $9.25 million verdict in Santa Monica for a woman who suffered chronic pain after a spinal cord injury. In another chronic pain case, Steve got a $6.1 million verdict in Bakersfield for a young woman who developed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome due to a shoulder injury following a car collision. Steve has had many other recent verdicts in chronic pain cases, including a $3.7 million verdict in a Riverside court for a man who was hurt in a construction accident and developed CRPS, and a $3.6 million verdict in Sacramento for a dentist who suffered chronic pain after a failed neck surgery. In 2017 Steve and his partner Pej Ben-Cohen tried a chronic pain syndrome case to a $7.1 million verdict in Long Beach. A few weeks before in 2017, Steve tried another case in Yolo County, California where the jury awarded $1.4 million to a physical therapist involved in a minor traffic collision and developed chronic pain from a spinal cord contusion. The insurance company in that case refused to accept responsibility for the injury.

Steve and his partner Ashley Parris, another well known trial lawyer, and fellow CZ&R attorney, frequently team up on trial cases. They have a daughter together and make their home in Ventura County.
